Once Bitten, Twice Shy

If you haven’t seen the stills from yesterday’s shoot, you can check them out here!

kitchenstillI’m currently throwing together a trailer, so that will be online soon (I hope!) and will begin editing when I’m not physically and emotionally drained! The shoot went well, strangely everything turned out a lot different than how I imagined, but I think it was for the better. There were a few hiccups, as can be expected, but overall everything panned out well. I did my back in somewhere between lifting things, crouching a lot, moving heavy furniture and picking up two members of my crew so they could see the camera (I’m tall, they’re not, the camera was up high and they couldn’t see). But other than that it all went pretty smooth once we’d all got into the swing of it.

I couldn’t have asked for a better cast. I was in two minds about holding auditions, the main reason I wanted to was because I edit 3thought it’d be a bit of fun but the time and effort it would’ve taken wasn’t worth it. Fortunately everyone was great and all the parts came completely naturally…scenes were completely different to how they looked in my head because the performances were so natural and brilliant, I just stood back and let the cast do what they wanted for the most part.

Unfortunately I have a tendency to get the giggles when shooting serious/intense scenes…and this film is full of those! When one of the crew drew attention to the fact that when we’re all behind the camera and there’s a particularly good shot, we look at each other and smile and nod it became a bit of a running joke and unfortunately we wound up in stitches, but it was all good fun!

Screen Shot 2013-07-07 at 10.20.58I had a great crew, the perfect location and a fab cast, and a reasonably good script (even if I do say so myself!) So it all went well. Looking through the footage now I can see we’ve got some cracking shots and haven’t missed anything vital out, I’m looking forward to editing it and seeing the final thing.

I’ll post the trailer up on here as soon as it’s finished, the film itself won’t be available for a while because of festival regulations (a lot of them require a ‘premiere’ status, in other words the film can’t have been screened to a wide audience before, ie via Youtube) but I may in the future need some people to watch and review it, so if you write film reviews and are comfortable reviewing short films and if of course you’re interested, I’ll be looking to post out some DVDs for review!

I’ll leave you with this little outtake clip as a kind of taster for what’s to come (I had to use an outtake because I don’t want to give too much away!) Enjoy!

  1. And another reblog!! It’s so nice to read that what you’ve done worked well! It felt right. I’m now going to have to get off my tired old (achy) butt and do a blog post as well! πŸ˜€

  2. Now I know why they call this area “New ENGLAND.” We complain about the cold, the heat, the rain, the droughts, and everything else. We must have gotten it from YOU people. Glad it all went well. You know, it could have been raining. That would have dampened everyone’s spirits (punny, huh?).
