For this task we have to create our own, individual script based on one of these two premises;
A: There is a hammering on a door, it opens to reveal a dishevelled
breathless person, why? How did they get this way…
B: There is a hammering on a door, why? Dare the door be opened? If so
what is revealed….
We will then follow the steps of script writing, firstly by coming up with a pitch.
I’m keen to go with premise A, and although I don’t yet have a solid pitch and a thought out idea, I have a couple stories including characters, that could fit the premise. These are;
1. There’s a knock at the door and its opened to reveal someone who has been attacked. They aren’t sure by what but, although delirious, they are sure it was some kind of non-human creature. The man who answered the door has to decide what to do with him. Neither of them are sure what it was that attacked him, but the wounds are healing abnormally quickly and the man has a very high temperature. What should they do?
2. The knock at the door is a young girl. A man answers and she runs in crying. She’s been held for ransom by a group of small time gangsters who have been working outside the law for a long time. Her father, a wealthy and well known journalist has been trying for a long time to uncover them and reveal the truth, and he is getting dangerously close. They kidnapped her to blackmail him, however she escaped. The man comforts her, but he has seen on the news that she was being held for ransom for over a million pounds, and her father was willing and able to pay it. His wife is very sick and in hospital, and with her treatment to pay for he cannot afford for his son to go to university as he so desperately wants. He knows that with the ransom money he could fulfil his sons dreams and pay for his wife’s treatment. Now he has two choices; either save the girl, or hold her to ransom himself. What will he decide?
3. The person who answers the knock at the door is the dishevelled, out of breath person. The person knocking is just a delivery man/postman. The person who answers is panicking, and the postman asks if everything’s ok, he then gets dragged into the scenario. The man has killed a burglar whom he caught rifling through his cupboards and is now panicking, not knowing what to do with the body. The two of them have to come up with a way to dispose of the body and solve the issue so that neither of them end up being arrested.
I’m not sure which idea I want to use, although I think I like the second one best. I will probably write pitches for all three so that I can choose which one to make into a script.
